How To Clean Carpets

How to Spot Treat Carpets

  1. Remove excess soil or liquid from the carpet.
  2. Always pre-test the spotter on the carpet or upholstery in a small inconspicuous area before using. This is to determine if the product is going to have any adverse effects on the carpet.
  3. Apply spotter (Spotty or Carpet Plus) with a clean white cloth and gently dab the stain working from the outside towards the centre.
  4. For deep stains apply spotter directly to the carpet. DO NOT soak the carpet.
  5. Rinse the area with water (if possible) after the stain has been removed.
  6. Repeat steps 3 and 5 for stubborn stains.
  7. Restore the carpet pile to its original shape by combing the carpet.

Encapsulation Cleaning

  1. Vacuum area thoroughly to remove dry soil.
  2. Dilute 40mL/L of Encase solution for normal soiling and 60mL for heavily soiled conditions.
  3. Always pre-test the detergent on the carpet in a small inconspicuous area before using. This is to determine if the product is going to have any adverse effects on the carpet.
  4. Apply Encase to carpet by either spray application or by feeding from a solution tank.
  5. Thoroughly scrub the carpet with a rotary or cylindrical brush machine using overlapping passes.
  6. Manual cleaning may be performed using a suitable stiff bristled brush. Rinsing is not required.
  7. Encapsulated soil and detergent can be vacuumed from the carpet once it is dry.

Prespray and Extraction

  1. Vacuum area thoroughly to remove dry soil.
  2. Dilute Carpet Plus 25mL/L for normal soiling and 50mL/L for heavily soiled conditions.
  3. Always pre-test the detergent on the carpet in a small inconspicuous area before using. This is to determine if the product is going to have any adverse effects on the carpet.
  4. Spray diluted Carpet Plus over the carpet with an atomising spray and allow to dwell for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Agitate the carpet with a pile brush or other suitable equipment if necessary.
  6. Stains or heavily soiled areas may be treated using Carpet Plus at 200mL/L dilution. Apply to stain. Gently agitate working from the edge of the stain towards the centre.

How to Strip, Seal and Maintain Floors

Stripping old polish

  1. Dust mop the floor to remove loose dirt and rubbish.
  2. Dilute Quick Strip as recommended on the label in a bucket of cold water.
  3. Apply Quick Strip to smaller areas (approximately 10 to 20 square meters). WARNING – applying stripper to large areas may result in the stripper drying on the floor. If this occurs the floor will require re-stripping.
  4. Allow 5 minutes for the stripper to penetrate the old sealer.
  5. Scrub the floor with a black pad fitted to a low speed scrubbing machine. Scrub the floor very slowly passing over each area twice using a side-to-side motion.
  6. To check if the old sealer has been removed properly, scratch the floor with your finger or a blunt object and check for residual sealer. Further scrubbing and more floor stripping solution may be required if sealer is not completely removed.
  7. Make sure the stripping solution is kept wet at all times. If the floor appears to be dry at any stage apply more stripping solution to the floor.
  8. When the old sealer has been completely removed from the floor pick-up the stripping solution using a clean mop and bucket, or a wet and dry vacuum, or an auto scrubber.
  9. Rinse the floor using a clean mop and bucket with clean potable water. Ensure that all residues are removed and that no stripper is left on the floor.
  10. When dry, check to see if old sealer has been removed completely. If there is still some old polish left in some areas repeat steps 2 to 10.

Sealing floors

  1. Always use a new or dedicated mop to apply a floor sealer/finish. For best results use a polycotton sealing mop. To avoid potential problems a mop and bucket should be dedicated for sealing floors. To avoid cross contamination use RapidClean colour coded mops, handles and buckets.
  2. Place the Gloss Plus into the clean, dry bucket. Immerse the mop in the bucket with Gloss Plus.
  3. Wring the mop out with moderate pressure applied to the wringers. The mop head should be thoroughly soaked but not dripping.
  4. Apply the Gloss Plus to the floor using a figure 8 motion. Each figure 8 should overlap the previous stroke to ensure consistency.
  5. Buff after applying 4-6 coats, (preferable to buff after four coats and apply two further coats for best results).

Maintaining Floors

  1. First sweep the floor clear of all loose debris then clean the floor using Neutrol which is a neutral detergent either with a mop or with a floor scrubber.
  2. Use Quick Shine on a weekly basis to restore and rejuvenate the sealed floor surface following dilution rates on the label.
  3. Sealed Floors: Apply Quick Shine to the floor by mop and bucket or an auto scrubber at the correct dilution to clean and maintain floor. When used regularly Quick Shine will impart soil and heel mark resistance.
  4. Unsealed Floors: Quick Shine can be used to improve the cleaning and appearance of unsealed floors such as tarkett and anti-slip rubber. After cleaning with Neutrol you can also spray buff Quick Shine at a 1:10 (100mL/L) dilution using a red pad.

Cleaning & Maintenance Of Tiled Areas

Tiled Floors

Tiled floors are hard wearing surfaces and excellent for commercial environments however they require regular maintenance for aesthetic, safety and hygienic purposes. A well maintained tile floor will present your premises as clean and appealing for your staff and your customers.

Cleaning dirt and grease build up from tiles

Quite often ceramic and vitrified tiles will appear quite dirty. Due to the porous nature of these tiles, dirt and detergent can get trapped in the tile and are difficult to remove with normal cleaning methods. To thoroughly clean the tiled surface, scrub tiles with Tile Clean HD as per directions. Allow 5-10 minutes dwell time on tiles, agitate with a stiff bristle brush or pad then remove the residue and rinse thoroughly with water.

Interior glazed or unglazed porcelain tiles

(Foyers, Common and Commercial Areas – not Bathrooms)
Remove loose debris by sweeping. Mop floors daily with Neutrol – neutral detergent. Once a week mop with hot water to remove any
residue. Grout quite often darkens over time which is caused by residue build up. To remove this residue use a stiff nylon or bassine type deck scrubbing broom and scrub the floor with water. Sweep up any debris and rinse thoroughly with a fresh mop and water. Mechanical agitation is recommended for larger areas

Bathroom / washroom floors and tiles

Due to constant use, bathroom floor tiles need strict cleaning routines to remove body oils, soap scum, hard water deposits and mould. Floors need to be mopped daily (if possible) with Lemon Fresh and once a week with clean water to remove any residue. Physical agitation will be required from time to time to remove residue, use a stiff nylon or bassine type deck brush and scrub while still wet.

Commercial kitchens

Oils and fats can quickly build up on commercial kitchen floors. If there is a residue on the floor Tile Clean HD should be used to remove residue then followed by daily maintenance cleaning with Trojan.
